The Director General, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, in his opening remarks, reaffirmed his commitment to accelerated staff capacity development aimed at repositioning the Commission for more effective regulation in the era of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He noted that the training was specifically designed to strengthen investigative capacity across all media platforms, including broadcasting, over-the-top (OTT) services, and other digital platforms.
The DG encouraged participants to maximize the opportunity provided by the workshop, emphasizing that the competence and integrity of individual staff directly influence the overall integrity and effectiveness of the Commission.
He also used the occasion to update staff on key reform initiatives under his leadership, including the acquisition of modern digital equipment, trainings, review of relevant laws to grant the Commission enhanced regulatory powers, and the establishment of an intelligence unit comprising officers from the Directorates of Monitoring as well as Investigation and Enforcement.
The workshop, facilitated by seasoned cyber forensic experts and legal practitioners, exposed participants to practical techniques and tools in forensic analysis and digital evidence gathering.
Participants were also guided through relevant provisions of the Evidence Act 2011, the Cybercrime Act, and other applicable legislations critical to the Commission’s regulatory mandate.
In her closing remarks, the Director, Investigation and Enforcement, expressed appreciation to the Director General for his unwavering commitment to staff development. She also thanked the management of the Digital Bridge Institute and the facilitators for delivering a high-quality, hands-on training experience. Staff were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained, noting that effective implementation remains the true measure of the workshop’s success.
