The organisations made the demand on Monday while condemning the lawmaker’s attack on the driver and threats to make him disappear from Nigeria without any consequence.
It was earlier reported that in a viral video making the rounds on social media, Ikwechegh was captured brutalising an e-hailing driver who went to his (the lawmaker) residence in Abuja for delivery.
Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, repeatedly slapped the driver and hurled insults at him for asking him to come to his car to collect what he (the driver) was there to deliver.
Ikwechegh also threatened to make the driver disappear from Nigeria, saying nothing would happen if he did, even if the driver called the Inspector General of Police.
The lawmaker refused to pay the driver and boasted that he is a member of the House of Representatives. He broke the driver’s phone and tore his clothes for “disrespecting him”.
He also threatened to beat the driver and lock him in his generator house to make him suffer.
Reacting to the incident, TIB said, “We demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of House of Reps member Alex Ikwechegh over the assault of the hustling Abuja Uber driver.
“The dishonorable Rep member must be asked to explain the number of innocent Nigerians he has caused to disappear without a trace.”
Also, RULAAC in a statement issued by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, said the action of the lawmaker highlights a troubling abuse of power and lack of respect for basic human dignity.
Nwanguma said the lawmaker’s physical attack on the driver over a perceived slight issue is deeply concerning and reflects a broader issue of impunity among those in positions of authority.
He said, “Such behavior is unacceptable, and it underscores the need for accountability. The Senate leadership and the Inspector-General of Police should take immediate action to address this incident.
“Ensuring that lawmakers are held accountable for their actions is crucial in fostering a culture of respect and responsibility, as well as restoring public trust in the political system.”
