‘LG AUTONOMY, TINUBU’S 2027 AGENDA’

Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a public affairs analyst, and the Convener, Reset Lagos, has expressed his belief that the federal government’s motives behind empowering local governments are questionable and intended to benefit the president’s political agenda.

He claimed that the federal government seeks to create the impression that state governments are misusing funds, while simultaneously presenting themselves as supportive of local governments by ensuring they receive direct financial allocations.

He further asserted that this approach ultimately allows the president to wield more influence and control over local councils, thereby securing their loyalty and support.

He said, “Why is the federal government doing this? Firstly, the federal government wants to give the impression that the state government is not doing anything in the states and they are just using the local government money for themselves. Now, this law wants to empower the local governments so that they can be getting their money directly. It is only a strategy of who pays the piper calls the tune.

The president (Tinubu) wants to control every single of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria to prepare himself to become president in 2027, so that all the local councils would be beholden to him. They would be praising the president for giving them such money.”
