BUHARI: MAIDUGURI FLOOD NATIONAL DISASTER

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has described the flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno, as a national calamity.

The flood incident on Tuesday displaced many residents in the Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin areas of Maiduguri.

The flood followed the collapse of the Alau dam, which has been at full capacity for the past few weeks.

In a statement on Tuesday, Garba Shehu, the spokesperson to the former president, quoted Buhari as commiserating with the victims of the disaster.

Buhari noted that the relief measures put in place by the various governments will provide comfort to the affected persons.

“Former President Muhammadu Buhari sends commiserations to the government and people of Borno and other affected states, following severe floods caused by incessant downpours,” the statement reads.

“Describing it as a national calamity, the former president said he had heard of the widespread devastation of homes and farmland and the loss of life in Borno and several other states of the federation.

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this natural disaster.”

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu directed the immediate evacuation of residents affected by floods in the state.
