CHARLY BOY: MYSELF AND TYNA CAME CLOSE TO MARRIAGE

Maverick singer, Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has shared his reflections on his relationship with the late singer Tyna Onwudiwe.

In a candid conversation, he revealed that he came close to marrying her, recounting a pivotal moment when they discussed the possibility. He recalled saying, “I don’t see myself marrying two wives,” recognizing the challenges their relationship might face.

Charly Boy emphasized their strong friendship, suggesting that marriage could have complicated their bond. “Let’s just be good friends,” he said, and they developed a deep connection. He remembered Tyna as a remarkable person, noting her generous spirit: “She would give her last penny to a stranger.”

Over the years, people often joked about their relationship, referring to Tyna as his wife and expressing concern when she fell ill.

Charly Boy acknowledged that he sometimes felt the need for a female companion to help him navigate those difficult moments, given the public perception of their relationship. He also mentioned that there were misconceptions about her children, with many assuming they were his.

Charly Boy actively supported Tyna during her fight against cancer, raising funds for her treatment. Sadly, she passed away on June 29, 2001, just 17 days after her 47th birthday, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.
