GUNMEN ATTACK TRANSMISSION STATION

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that its 330/132/33kV transmission substation project in Obajana, Kogi State, was attacked by armed men late on November 12, 2024.

It was gathered that the attack took place around 11:55 pm, on Tuesday night.

This is contained in statement released on Wednesday, by General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who stated that the assailants opened fire indiscriminately upon entering the site, causing security personnel stationed there to flee for safety.

Mbah explained that during the violent intrusion, one of the site’s major components, a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer, sustained damage, with its radiator reportedly burst from gunfire impact.

In response to the attack, TCN has begun assessing the extent of the damage in collaboration with the contractor overseeing the project.

The statement reads, “This incident is part of a broader pattern of vandalism targeting transmission infrastructure across the country.”

“The new Obajana Transmission Substation, which is designed to be a 1X150MVA 330/132/33kV capacity substation will significantly enhance power supply to Kogi State and surrounding areas upon completion,” Mbah added
