MYSELF AND AWILO PUSH CONGO TO THE WORLD, KOFI

Congolese singer-songwriter, dancer, producer, and founder of Quartier Latin International, Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba, known professionally as Koffi Olomidé, has said that himself and his counterpart, the popular Congolese soukous singer, Louis Albert William Longomba known professionally as Awilo Longomba, are just two Congo brothers who are destined to put Congo on the musical world map.

He said this while clarifying that himself and Awilo were never rivals.

In his words, he said:

“Many people saw us as rivals because we were in our different worlds doing our thing, we were like these boys from Nigeria Wizkid and Davido dominating the African airwaves at that time.

“You see Francophone musicians in Africa have been long berated that we took it upon ourselves to change the narrative.

“Awilo had the vibe of the club banger while I took charge of the romantic African french man style, we won at the end!

“Awilo was never my rival, we were just two Congo brothers destined to put Congo on the musical world map.

“Thank you Africa, Thank you Nigeria for giving us our respect. We hope the new generation of African francophone artists learn from us.”
