WIKE HAD NO AGREEMENT WITH PDP, PARTY CHIEF

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially distanced itself from any agreements allegedly made by former Rivers State governor and influential party figure, Nyesom Wike, stating that such arrangements were personal and not endorsed by the party.

This clarification comes as internal tensions within the PDP escalate, threatening the unity and stability of Nigeria’s main opposition party.

In an interview with Vanguard on Sunday in Abuja, PDP National Financial Secretary Daniel Woyengikuro made it clear that the party had no hand in any deals associated with Wike.

“What agreements are we talking about?” Woyengikuro asked. “Wike had agreements with his friends, not with the party. Those names he mentioned — are they the party? The party was not involved. We have no knowledge of such agreements.”

Woyengikuro called for the urgent convening of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), the PDP’s highest decision-making body outside of its national convention, to resolve the internal disputes.

“The NEC will address these issues. This isn’t a physical fight or personal confrontation. All this drama is unnecessary,” he added.

He also urged the public to seek official party positions only from designated spokespersons.

“Please, reach out to the chairman or the publicity secretary for the party’s official stance,” he advised.

However, a differing perspective was shared by Rt. Hon. Jones Onyereri, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees. Speaking separately to Vanguard, Onyereri questioned the wisdom of abandoning agreements brokered by respected party elders.

“Why would anyone renege on an agreement that elders staked their reputations to broker?” he said. “These are high-ranking members of the party — sitting governors, former governors — who reached a consensus. So why go back on it? It’s not a good look.”

The controversy follows recent claims by Wike that certain PDP leaders, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, had failed to honor agreements aimed at restoring peace within the party. Citing dishonesty and broken trust, Wike announced his withdrawal from all such arrangements.

As of the time of filing this report, attempts to reach PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba for an official comment were unsuccessful. Multiple calls to his phone went unanswered.
