Comrade Edidem Monday Itoro, Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Digital Youth Mobilization, has tendered his resignation following Governor Umo Eno’s reported decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources revealed that Governor Eno made the announcement during a State Executive Council meeting held Thursday in Uyo, instructing his appointees to join him in the defection or prepare to vacate their positions.
In a resignation letter addressed to a Commissioner in the governor’s cabinet, Itoro made it clear he would not be joining the APC. Writing in a humorous yet firm tone, he reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, citing loyalty and personal principles.
“I took my oath of loyalty with the PDP, and that’s the party I’ll remain with,” Itoro wrote. “I cannot dance at APC rallies when I haven’t even had a proper meal.”
He added: “Even before I could frame my appointment letter, they’re already pushing people out. I’d rather go back to the village and open a cyber cafe near a borehole.”
Itoro concluded by symbolically rejecting the APC’s broom symbol and expressing continued allegiance to the PDP’s umbrella emblem.
His resignation adds a dramatic twist to the unfolding political dynamics in Akwa Ibom State, as more reactions are expected in the coming days.
