An officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Prince Orji Ugochukwu, has been commended for his exceptional bravery and integrity after intercepting and arresting a notorious suspect allegedly involved in ritual killings, despite being offered a ₦10 million bribe and luxury smartphones in exchange for freedom.
The suspect, identified as Ezeani and popularly known by aliases such as “Ichie Billion” and “E Dey Play, E Dey Show,” is accused of carrying out gruesome crimes in Umumba, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. Reports allege that he buried several victims alive in a soakaway pit within his compound. He is believed to be affiliated with a ritualistic cult responsible for multiple killings linked to occult practices and the quest for so-called “okeite.”
Officer Ugochukwu, who is stationed along the Gbaji axis of the Seme border route, recounted the dramatic encounter in a private message to a relative, who later shared the details under anonymity.
“On Wednesday afternoon, while I was on duty at my checkpoint in Gbaji along the Seme road, I noticed a young man on a motorcycle. He wore a cap, and his face seemed familiar. I had received intelligence earlier, along with a viral image of a wanted suspect attempting to escape the country.
I signaled for the motorcycle to stop, but the rider refused. I quickly boarded another motorcycle and pursued them. I caught up with them at a nearby immigration checkpoint and ordered the rider to turn back. This time, I got on the motorcycle with the suspect to ensure he didn’t flee again.
During our return, the suspect questioned why he was being detained. I showed him the viral image and explained the allegations against him. He denied being the person in the photo and claimed the man pictured was his brother. He said he was returning from the bank in Agbara and insisted he was not a native doctor.
He then attempted to bribe me with ₦10 million to let him go. I refused. He went further, offering an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a Tecno Camon 19, claiming the iPhone alone was worth over a million naira. He pleaded, alleging he was framed because he was next in line to become the Igwe (traditional ruler) of his community.
Despite his efforts, I stood my ground and brought him back to the checkpoint. I took photographs of him matching the ones circulating online and immediately alerted the Seme Border Patrol Command. Once his identity was confirmed, I placed him in handcuffs and escorted him to the command headquarters. Some of my colleagues initially doubted it was him, only I recognized him.”
The suspect is now in custody, and further investigations are ongoing. Officer Ugochukwu’s actions have drawn praise from both the public and fellow law enforcement personnel, serving as a powerful example of ethical conduct and commitment to justice in Nigeria’s fight against ritualistic crimes.
