APC: NO AUTOMATIC TICKETS FOR AKPABIO, OTHERS

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed a viral report claiming that National Assembly members would automatically receive party tickets for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday from Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, labelled the report as false and misleading. He clarified that no such decision has been made by the party’s leadership.

“The attention of the APC has been drawn to a purported breaking news report tagged ‘APC Grants Automatic Tickets to All National Assembly Members’ in viral circulation,” Morka stated. “The report is fake news and should be disregarded in its entirety as it did not emanate from our great party.”

He urged party members and the public to ignore the claims, which he described as mischievous. However, Morka did not confirm or deny whether the matter might be considered in the future.

The clarification comes amid growing interest in the APC’s internal dynamics, particularly after a wave of defections from opposition parties bolstered the party’s dominance. The APC now controls 68 seats in the 109-member Senate and approximately 190 seats in the 360-member House of Representatives.

This development follows the party’s recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The endorsement was made during the APC’s national summit held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio formally moved the motion, which was seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen. Both leaders were supported by their deputies, Barau Jibrin and Ben Kalu.

“I hereby move, and let it be moved, that not only should President Bola Ahmed Tinubu be the sole presidential candidate of the APC in 2027, but he should also be the unanimous choice of the Nigerian people,” Akpabio declared, citing the president’s efforts to drive national growth.

In a related event, while presenting the 2025 national budget last December, President Tinubu humorously remarked that members of the 10th National Assembly had been “re-elected.” After mistakenly referring to them as the 11th Assembly, lawmakers corrected him, prompting the president to joke, “Which means you are re-elected.” The session erupted into laughter and chants of “On your mandate we shall stand, Bola,” reflecting strong support for the president within the legislature.
