OLUBADAN: MY MOVEMENT WAS PROTOCOL

In a move to douse growing tensions within the traditional institution, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has clarified that there is no rift between him and the Alaafin of Oyo.

The monarch broke his silence following a viral video from a recent public function which suggested a deliberate “snub” of the Alaafin. Speaking in Ibadan, the Olubadan described the online narrative as a product of “misinterpretation” and “mischief”.

Providing a firsthand account of the event, the Olubadan explained that his actions were dictated by the logistics of the venue and a desire to be as unobtrusive as possible after arriving behind schedule.

“When I arrived late, I try to take my seat quietly,” the monarch explained, likening his entrance to a worshiper joining a prayer line at a mosque. He noted that his designated seat was positioned between the Soun of Ogbomoso and the Alaafin, requiring him to navigate a specific path through the crowd that was misinterpreted by onlookers.

The Olubadan expressed disappointment in how selective clips can distort reality. He noted that while the viral snippets focused on a single moment, the full recording shows him engaging warmly with other dignitaries and the State Governor.

“I don’t see the issue as an insult to anybody,” he stated firmly, confirming that communication has already taken place to ensure no grievances remain.
Beyond the seat-sorting controversy, the Olubadan urged the public to shift their focus toward more pressing issues. He emphasized that his primary goal remains the unity of the current generation and the advancement of Educational standards in the state.

By addressing the issue directly, the monarch has signaled that the throne of Ibadan is more interested in social progress than the “distractions” of perceived royal rivalries.
