He received his early education in Lagos and Ogun States, attending Mayflower Junior School, Ikenne, and later St. Gregory’s College and Pobuna Grammar School in Lagos. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Lagos State University. Driven by a passion for professional development, he further earned two master’s degrees: one in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University and another in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University. He has also undergone several specialized professional trainings in investigation, intelligence, and strategic leadership both within and outside Nigeria.
Tunji Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on 18 May 1992. Throughout his career, he has served in various operational and administrative capacities, including as Divisional Police Officer and as Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in different states. He also served as Deputy Head of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Rivers State, where he handled complex criminal investigations.
He gained national recognition during his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State from 2015 to 2021. Under his leadership, the RRS adopted a more community-oriented policing approach and became widely known for professionalism and improved public engagement.
In August 2021, he was appointed Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), one of the most strategic investigative units of the Nigeria Police Force. He was later promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and subsequently appointed Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police. In 2026, he rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and assumed leadership of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.
Beyond policing, Tunji Disu is also an accomplished sportsman, particularly in judo. A third-dan black belt holder, he has represented Nigeria in competitions and won medals at both national and international levels, including a silver medal at the 2022 US Open Judo Championships (veteran category). He has served as Chairman of the Lagos State Judo Association and as patron of the Nigerian Police Judo Association.
