I live at the Ita Faaji/Wire and Cable axis of Apata, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. I bought ₦20,000 worth of a little less than 500 units in June 2023. Till now, I still have over 375 units unused. This is because my hood has been in almost total darkness since more one year due to bad transformer.
The truth is that regular power supply in my area is the exception, rather than the rule since more than one year. Without any iota of exaggeration, I can count the number of hours we have had electricity in over 365 days now.
We’ve made series of appeals to PHCN, àbí an IBEDC to help us to either repair or replace the old transformer, all to no avail.
Our dilemma now is where my community and I belong in this era of brand categorisation resulting in an increase in electricity tariff from ₦66 per unit to ₦225 per unit by the almighty NERC and the other authorities.
President Bola Tinubu, kindly help us to look into this matter o. This chain-whipping and biting harsh economic reality, occasioned by fuel subsidy removal and, now, electricity subsidy removal, may be the last straw.
Nigerians on the street are not smiling, in spite of the claim that the economy is upward-looking.
