The award, announced Thursday, followed what organisers said was a rigorous selection process designed to spotlight top-performing public office holders across key sectors.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the recognition reflects what he called “unprecedented achievements” recorded under Lawal’s administration, particularly in infrastructure and public services.
Top among the projects highlighted is the construction of a modern international airport in Zamfara, described as a historic milestone for the state. The government also pointed to ongoing urban renewal efforts, alongside investments in healthcare and education infrastructure.
The administration says it has built, refurbished, and equipped more than 800 schools across all 14 local government areas, while also constructing and upgrading general hospitals to improve access to healthcare.
Idris noted that the award is expected to boost the governor’s resolve to continue delivering on his mandate, adding that the recognition signals growing national attention on Zamfara’s development efforts.
The selection committee for the award was chaired by Danladi Bako, a former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission. The panel also included industry veterans and representatives from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria and the NBC.
The BON award places Lawal among a shortlist of leaders recognised for impact-driven governance, as states across Nigeria continue to compete for investment, infrastructure growth, and improved public service delivery.
