Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has revealed she has no regrets about having her twins through surrogacy.
Adichie made the revelation during a recent episode of With Chude Live, a talk show hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo.
“My boys are so precious to me. And I hated that anything about them would become politicised. On the one hand, I thought, ‘I wish I hadn’t talked about it,’ but on the other hand, there is no way I’m going to lie,” she said.
The Half of a Yellow Sun author expressed hope that speaking publicly about her experience would encourage other women to feel less ashamed about choosing non-traditional paths to motherhood.
“Our society is so judgmental, and I don’t think that’s good for anyone,” she said. “But my daughter and my babies are the greatest gift I’ve been given — so, zero regrets.”
Known for her strong feminist voice and advocacy for women’s rights, Adichie’s openness about surrogacy is likely to spark broader conversations around reproductive choices and the stigma often attached to them in African communities.
Adichice is a Nigerian author. She has written five novels, two collections of short stories, one memoir, and many articles and short stories for many newspapers, magazines, and periodicals. She is widely regarded as a central figure in postcolonial feminist literature.
