DAVIDO: HOW WIZKID ASSISTED MY RISE

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, has opened up about his early struggles in the industry and how some of the biggest names in Afrobeats, including Ayo Balogun, better known as Wizkid, played a crucial role in his development.

Davido shared that when he first came back from America and his music production wasn’t hitting the mark, Wizkid, alongside Wande Coal and Don Jazzy, stepped in to help him improve.

“When music production wasn’t working for me, Wizkid really helped me a lot. I didn’t just show up and become a superstar. I came from America, and Afrobeats production wasn’t going well for me. People like Wizkid, Wande Coal, and Don Jazzy helped me get better at production. I’ll never be greedy about it because they were there for me.”

However, despite the love and support they had for each other in the beginning, things took a different turn as their careers progressed. Davido revealed that at some point, Wizkid stopped talking to him once he started gaining more popularity, marking the beginning of the well-known tension between the two.

Initially, their friendship was rooted in mutual respect and helping each other rise within the music industry. It was all love between Davido and Wizkid but somewhere along the line, things changed.

As two of the biggest names in Afrobeats, their journey from friends to rivals has been closely followed by fans, but it’s clear that in the beginning, their bond played a significant role in shaping both their careers.
