I’M IGBO BY BLOOD, DAVIDO

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has declared his Igbo heritage in response to a tribal post that criticized his association with Igbo people.

The controversy arose after an X user, yakbel, wrote, “Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest, Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them, you can never satisfy Ibos ooo, IBOs are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”

In response to the post, Davido simply wrote, “lol I AM IGBO by blood.”

This declaration comes after his recent public meeting with veteran highlife musician Bright Chimezie in Lagos, where he paid tribute to Chimezie’s track “Because of English,” which inspired his song “With You” featuring Omah Lay.

Davido’s connection to Igbo culture is rooted in his family ties. His wife, Chioma Rowland, hails from Imo State, and his late paternal grandmother, Esther NnenaAdeleke (née Akparah), was of Igbo descent.

During a video call with Bright Chimezie, Davido said, “I got inspiration from your song, God bless you.”
