JOKE SILVA: OLU INSISTED I RETAIN MY NAME

Nollywood veteran Joke Silva has revealed why she did not adopt her husband Olu Jacobs’ surname after their marriage.

According to her, it was her husband who advised her to retain her maiden name.

In a recent episode of the Leadership podcast hosted by Stephen Akintayo, the 62-year-old actress shared that her husband recognized the importance of maintaining her professional identity.

The host asked: “Is there a reason you didn’t change your last name after getting married?”

Silva replied: “He [Olu Jacobs] was the one who actually advised that I don’t. Because he understood the importance of branding. He was like, my brand has started building as Joke Silva and changing brands several years after one has been using that brand, as far as he was concerned, could cause problems for me.

“So, we kept the name Joke Silva as the brand but within the circles, there was nobody who didn’t know I was Mrs Jacobs. Changing last name really didn’t matter.”

This decision has allowed her to continue building her career under her own name.
