NBC AND NDPC STRENGTHEN TIES

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), yesterday, hosted a delegation from the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), led by its National Commissioner/CEO, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, alongside his Management team.

The Director General of the NBC, highlighted the inseparable link between modern media and data protection, particularly with the growth of digital and social media. He pointed out the need for stronger inter- agency cooperation, and advocated for a formalized collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), emphasizing joint frameworks to monitor data trends and enhanced capacity building for staff.

Dr. Olatunji echoed these sentiments, noting that inter-agency synergy is vital for safeguarding Nigerian citizens. He underscored the necessity of strict compliance with data protection laws, and the implementation of robust data management practices across the industry.

He emphasized the need for increased awareness and training, and further proposed a joint effort with the NBC to introduce targeted capacity development initiatives on data privacy and protection for the broadcast industry, including tailored professional development programs for NBC staff.

The Meeting concluded with the Director General appreciating the engagement and reaffirming the need for closer synergy and continued collaboration between both agencies. He thanked everyone and noted that clear next steps would be agreed upon, including appointing representatives to continue the engagement.
