NIGERIA WINS BRONZE IN U-20 NATION’S FINAL

Nigeria secured a hard-fought bronze medal at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating host nation Egypt 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The match was filled with intensity as both teams sought redemption after falling short of the final.
Egypt struck early in the game, with Osama Omar capitalizing on a loose ball in the Nigerian area to score. Despite the early setback, Nigeria gradually found their rhythm, with their midfield trio dictating the tempo and creating chances.
Nigeria’s persistence paid off shortly after the break when Divine Oliseh’s pass allowed Bidemi Amole to score, drawing Nigeria level. The Flying Eagles pushed for a winner but were unable to score in regulation time.
The tie was decided by penalties, with Nigeria being clinical from the spot, converting all four attempts. Egypt faltered under pressure, with two of their spot-kicks saved by Nigerian goalkeeper RufaiAbubakar.
The result handed Nigeria a measure of consolation after a campaign that promised more. The bronze medal win maintained Nigeria’s strong record against host nations and marked their 14th podium finish in the competition. The Flying Eagles now turn their attention to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
