OSUNDARE, OTHERS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL TALK

The Thursday Film Series, a weekly curated series of film screenings featuring Canadian, independent and international films, is set to host a compelling screening and engaging discussion centred on the crucial issue of Environmental Degradation on Thursday February 6, 2025 at Drapers Hall, Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

The event which was sparked by the recent tree felling at the University Heritage Park will have the renowned poet and scholar, Professor Niyi Osundare, writer and passionate cultural activist, Ms Molara Wood and a writer and scholar, Ms Adeola N Aderemi, each bringing their unique perspective to the conversation as panellists.

Additionally, “The Poets” an insightful documentary that delves into the l8ves of two influential African writers: Syl Cheney Coker of Sierra Leone and Prof. Niyi Osundare of Nigeria will be shown.

The Poets, directed by Chivas DeVinck, the noted American filmmaker, captures the early lives of the two poets in their respective parts of Africa and the historical, cultural and social factors that shaped their lives as poets.

The documentary was filmed in Sierra Leone and Nigeria in 2016.
