SOCIAL MEDIA SUSPENDED ME NOT NCS, CONTROLLER

Michael Anugwa, deputy controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has said that he was not suspended by the service.

Anugwa is the officer in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos state, where Idris Okuneye, a popular crossdresser better known as Bobrisky, served his time.

Anugwa spoke on Monday while addressing members of the house of representatives joint committee on financial crimes and reformatory institutions.

The committee is investigating the bribery allegation against the anti-graft agency and the NCoS.

“It was a social media report. I wasn’t served a letter,” he said.

On Thursday, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the secretary to Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), had said Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, deputy controller of corrections in the MSCC, were suspended.

While addressing the lawmakers, Haliru Nababa, controller-general of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), said Anugwa and Adekunle were suspended.

“I, hereby, state that Bobrisky has served his tenure. It is actually true,” he said.

“Second issue on suspension, the officers concerned were duly suspended by the board to pave way for investigation.”

It is unclear why Anugwa, who is said to have been suspended, appeared before the committee in the entourage of Nababa and dressed in his official uniform.
