On Sunday, Waka Queen Salawa Abeni was on the exclusive list of recipients of awards of excellence at the Ariya Eko Independent Music Festival 2025 in Lagos. She’s remarkably shed weight, now wearing a look of a model, a contrast to her former roly-poly frame. She’s a bit slow but very sharp on microphone. She practically charmed me and others during her brief performance.
Her retired Comptroller and Commandant of the Customs Training College hubby, Alhaji Rasheed Adahunse didn’t only accompany her to the stage, he complemented his wife, dramatically danced to her song and showered her genuine love that looked much more promising and enduring.
At 65 years, Salawa may have met the man with whom she would spend and enjoy the rest of her life. That man is a good example of a husband devoted to his new life in his new wife. It’s a lesson to men who continue to live in the past, lazily reopening chapters of their wives history as if they’re sick upstairs. Haba!
Once you’ve accepted her, accept her, accept her past and move on. Remember your own past is there decaying in the refuse dump site. Marriage is not and should not be a war-war affair. If it’s not working, take a walk. If you’re late to take a walk, then, you will be the late. End of one is not end of life of both of you.
Despite number of your children, despite your escapades, may be, you’re a queen in the eyes of another man. I hate to write and read about couples barking at one another and threatening to kill one another. Don’t underrate this mad scene, they can kill. They’ve killed. They will still kill. But before he or she kills you, excuse yourself to live and fulfill your destiny. Queen Salawa Abeni and Alhaji Rasheed Adahunse kundus to you. Yo daa fun yin.
When I jesticulated to snap this attached picture just before they returned to their seat, near mine, with smile, they posed. With joy, I pressed the botton. Again, yoo daa fun yin.
