The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) was endorsed by the 24th General Assembly of BON held in Kano in the year 2021.
The primary objective of the Awards is to celebrate professionalism and promote quality practice in the broadcast industry.
This year’s edition, which is the 2nd in the series, began with the call for submission of entries which generated a total of 204 entries of the broadcast performance in the year 2024.The Awards Selection Committee was led by a former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission Dr. Danladi Bako with other members drawn from key industry players such as the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), National Broadcasting Commission and carefully selected veteran broadcasters among others.
This year’s event will unveil winners in 24 various categories of radio and television works submitted by both private and public broadcast media houses.
These categories include the radio and television stations of the year, the best reporter of the year, the best newscaster, and the best producer of the year, among others.
Apart from celebrating excellence from among the active broadcast media practitioners from across the country, the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) would use the event to honour people who have made meaningful impact in the broadcast industry.
These include Engr Shyngle Wigwe a former General Manager of NTA, His Excellency Ambassador Yemi Farounbi, a former MD of NTA and former Nigeria Ambassador to Philippines, Dr John Momoh, a celebrated newscaster and the Chairman of channels Television for their life time achievements and initiatives in the broadcast industry.
Others include, Malam Abubakar Jijiwa,the former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON),Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim, former Director General, Abubakar Rimi Television, first female Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria and Mrs Bimbo Oloyede, an astute broadcaster.
The event will also appreciate the contributions of some of the icons of the industry who are no longer alive.
Industry leaders slated for posthumous awards include the founder of the DAAR communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Mr Timawus -Mathias, Mr Okokon Ndem, Chief Mrs Anike Agbaje-williams and Mr Patrick Ityohegh.
The 2nd edition will equally recognise the Hon. Ministen,oT Information and Nationat orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Governor of Cross State (prince)
Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor of Zamfara State Dr. Dauda Lawal, Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani and Mr obadiah Tohomdet, a former Executive Secretary of BON for their support for the media industry.
There will also be corporate recognition of DAAR communications plc, Multichoice Nigeria Limited, Desmins Broadcasting (DITV), and Voice of Nigeria for advanclng the cause of broadcasting in the country.
