TINUBU, OBASANJO: FIGHTING WITH DECORUM By Babatunde Awoyemi

They are two elderstatemen. One, a former Nigerian President and the other the current President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Both are not political friends but they respect each other while fighting their political battle.

Tinubu had the premonition that Obasanjọ would not support him in 2023 but he still went ahead to visit the General for his blessing. Obj did not surprise the world. He gave his blessings to Obi of Anambra though the blessing did not bless Obi in that election.

Their battles have been fought with decorum. During the local government creation saga in Lagos, Tinubu did not go insultive against Baba. He quietly went to court and the court gave him victory.

Even in a battle that should not ordinarily concern Asiwaju, I mean the impeachment of Ladoja,, the current Olubadan, he quietly assembled a lega team to challenge the barbaric act. He was not a PDP man though. He was just fighting for justice. Can the gods of the land go against such a pure hearted man?

The only times when the two spoke about each other to betray their political hostility were when Baba Obasanjo called the president a stubborn but strategic man. And the President at a forum too referred to Baba, with due respect, a letter writer. Other than these, the two have shown that they are both Ọmọluabi ènìyàn.

Baba Obasanjo, kée pé, kee gbọ, nínú àlàáfíà. Aseyin samodun. Ìwòyí ọdún to nbọ, you will be Ninety. We will have twin things to celebrate then Asiwaju’s winning and Baba at 90.
