‘WHY TINUBU IS NOT USING NIGERIAN VEHICLES’

Former Director General, Voice of Nigeria and APC Chieftain, Osita Okechukwu has clarified that the President did not acquire any new vehicles for himself and is currently utilizing the existing fleet at the villa.

He said this during an interview while sheding light on President Tinubu’s vehicle selection and the promotion of Nigerian-made products.

He emphasized that it would be impractical to discard or auction these vehicles.

He said: “Mr President didn’t buy any new vehicle for himself. What he has [is] the vehicles he met in the villa. Unless you expected him to jettison or throw them away or auction them”

Okechukwu pointed out that senior military officers and the police do opt for locally manufactured vehicles. However, he acknowledged that the supply of such vehicles is currently insufficient, which limits their availability to executive members of the government. He cited an instance where the population commission approached the President for census purposes, but the existing number of cars fell short of meeting their requirements.

The interviewer however clarified that the issue is not about supply but the Government’s lack of demonstrated intent to promote made-in-Nigeria products like innoson motors.
