ROBBERS INVADE RADIO STATION

Armed robbers invaded Rhythm 94.7FM, a private radio station in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, making away with valuables including mobile phones, recorders, and operational equipment belonging to staff on duty.

The attack occurred around 4:40 pm at the station’s Swali community location, with the gunmen returning the following day to further loot the premises.

The Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a “rape on the entire media family in Bayelsa State” and an attack on press freedom.

In a statement signed by NUJ Chairman Comrade TonyeYemoleigha and Secretary Comrade Stanley Imgbi, the union expressed concern over growing insecurity affecting journalists and media houses in the state.

The NUJ has urged the Bayelsa State security agencies, particularly the Commissioner of Police, to swiftly identify and apprehend the culprits.

Additionally, the union called for the deployment of a patrol vehicle near the media house to enhance security, given the radio station’s isolated location.

Although no lives were lost during the attack, staff members were left traumatized by the experience.
