BE MORE CONSIDERATE, NUJ TELLS WIKE

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, to take a more considerate and balanced approach in enforcing revenue collection, especially regarding ground rent payments and property seizures in Abuja.

In a statement by its National President, Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, the union acknowledged the minister’s strides in infrastructure development and efforts to boost internally generated revenue (IGR) across the capital city.

While commending these initiatives, the NUJ voiced concern over the aggressive nature of the current enforcement tactics, warning that placing heavy financial burdens on citizens during a time of economic hardship could negatively affect residents’ wellbeing and potentially destabilize the broader economy.

The union called for a more humane policy framework that ensures effective revenue collection without disproportionately impacting ordinary Nigerians.
