NBC: SUPPORT DEMOCRACY

Speaking on behalf of the Director General, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Gloria Makinde, welcomed media stakeholders to the one-day sensitization workshop on political broadcasting, held in preparation for the upcoming off-cycle elections in Anambra State.

In his remarks, the Director General highlighted the crucial role broadcasters play in supporting democracy by staying committed to truth, fairness and professionalism. He noted that in today’s media environment, marked by misinformation, political pressure and public mistrust these values are more important than ever.

Mr. Ebuebu encouraged broadcasters to take ownership of their platforms by adhering to the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, prioritising fact-checking and maintaining high ethical standards.

He stressed the need for responsible and ethical content, particularly during elections, and reminded participants that the credibility of the electoral process is shaped not only by how votes are cast but also by how information is shared with the public by the broadcasters.
