EBUEBU: REPUTATION CRITICAL TO NBC

In the ongoing capacity-building workshop for the staff of Public Affairs Directorate organised by NBC for repositioning the Commission’s corporate image and enhancing service delivery, the Director-General of the NBC, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, in his opening remark emphasized that in today’s fast-paced digital landscape, the reputation of a regulator is its most critical asset.

“We cannot demand excellence from broadcasters if we do not embody it within our own walls,” the Director-General stated. “To elevate our identity requires more than routine information sharing; it demands strategic communication—the ability to anticipate trends, manage perceptions, and communicate regulatory interventions with clarity and authority.”

Acknowledging the current economic climate, the Director-General noted that the decision to prioritize this training, despite competing resource demands, is a testament to the Commission’s belief that human capital remains its most valuable investment.

Echoing this sentiment, the Director of Public Affairs, while welcoming the participating staff members, described them as the “custodians of the Commission’s reputation.”

“People might look at this room and see a small team, but I see a catalyst,” the Director remarked. “Because of our size, there is no room for silos. Every member of this Directorate is a brand ambassador. Your professionalism is the NBC’s professionalism.”

The workshop covers critical areas of Public Relations, including:

• Strategic Reputation Management

• Proactive Crisis Communication

• Service Excellence and Stakeholder Relations

• Technical and Managerial Competencies in the Digital Age

The facilitators from the NIPR are expected to lead interactive sessions and case studies designed to shift the Directorate from a reactive to a proactive communication model. This training is part of a broader vision by the NBC Management to ensure the Commission remains a visionary leader in the African broadcasting space.
