NBC, BROADCAST CHIEFS PARLEY

The Director General and Management of The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, today held a one day engagement with Chief Executive officers of broadcast stations.

The purpose of the meeting which took place at Hawthorn Suites Area 11 Garki, Abuja, is to engage stakeholders in a discourse that will foster inclusion and collaboration in policy formulation, leading to the growth and expansion of the broadcast sector.

Speaking to the stakeholders, Mr. Charles Ebuebu warmly welcomed Stakeholders and  stated that the aim of the dialogue is to identify creative ways of making policy while promoting open communication, inclusivity and collaboration within the broadcast industry.

He emphasized the importance of aligning regulatory policies with the dynamic nature of the broadcast industry, while also addressing several pertinent issues faced by the industry. Among the concerns he highlighted were; Legal reviews and pending cases with contradicting rulings and the necessity to carry out our regulatory duties while waiting for clarification. Quality content, Transfer of ownership of license, Border issues and interference, Broadcaster Identification, illegal stations, Professionalism, Statutory fees and Levies, Compliance with sections of the code on the right to complain and other matters.

He concluded by urging all broadcasters to familiarise themselves with the Code and adhere to its guidelines in their daily operations in a bid to limit breaches.

In her presentation, Director Engineering and Technology Engr Ruth Caleb reminded stakeholders of their pledge to remain within the frequency assigned to them and not encroach into another’s coverage area.

She also admonished them to maintain their territorial integrity by ensuring that their signals  are confined within the borders of Nigeria in order not to breach international protocols on cross border transmission and interference.

She advised station owners  to invest in capacity development and professional equipment for good quality signals.

In conclusion, Engr Caleb assured the stakeholders that the Director General of the NBC has extended his hands of friendship, to enable a strong, united and viable Broadcast Industry.
