A TOAST TO “KEKE” OGUNGBE

Kenny Ogungbe became famous in the nineties as the host of a popular TV program called AIT Jamz (later becoming PrimeTime Jamz on AIT).

Kenny’s impact in the music industry would last for centuries to come. He is no new name to the Nigerian music audience.

His legacies, especially with iconic singer 2face Idibia, still hovers fresh in people’s memories. Alongside his partner, Dayo Adeneye (a.k.a D1), both men practically paved the way and created platforms for young talents to showcase themselves to the world.

He is a reputable Nigerian DJ, music producer, TV presenter, and established music executive. Kenny is the founder and eponym of a label known as Kennis Music and serves as the CEO alongside the renowned Dayo D1 Adeneye.

They are the proud owners of a popular Lagos-based radio station, Kennis 104.1 F.M, Lagos.Kenny Ogungbe has engaged in numerous entertainment endeavors, making him one of Nigeria’s most celebrated creative personalities.

Kenny Ogungbe was born in the commercial city of Lagos in September 1960. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ogungbe, both of whom originated from the western part of Nigeria.

Kenny had one goal in mind, which he touted with confidence in all he did, and it was to become Africa’s number 1 record label, and by extension, a music executive. Whether he achieved that or not is debatable on several sentimental levels, but that he never stopped chasing that dream is crystal clear as a fact.

As when he started his journey into music, the cult culture of foreign playlists dominating our airwaves declined gradually as Nigerians started appreciating the emerging pop music from Plantashun Boiz, The Remedies and so many others.

In 1997, Kenny and his partner took the game to a whole new level, with their historic Easter Concerts. It was a jam-packed, serially sold-out music fest that ushered in a series of foreign artistes and promoted the local talents in Nigeria. Safe to say, it was Nigeria’s first major attempt at global commercial positioning.

Kenny Ogungbe started as a DJ, music producer, TV presenter, and music executive. He teamed up with another media personality, Dayo Adeneye, also known as D1, as hosts to a music programme called AIT Jamz.

Kenny Ogungbe also doubled as the Chief Executive Officer, co-founder of Kennis Music International, and a senior partner in Primetime Entertainment, Nigeria’s foremost entertainment company.

He helped revive Nigeria’s music industry, taking it to a whole new level while developing it.He has worked with, changed the careers of, or discovered The Remedies, Tony Tetuila and Eedris Abdulkareem, 2Baba (Then 2Face ), Sound Sultan (producing his first two solo albums), and Oritse Femi, among others.

This development in the music industry is partly responsible for Nigeria’s dominance and Africa and inroads into America, the UK, Europe, and globally. In 2012,

Kenny Ogungbe was appointed Managing Director of one of the biggest radio stations in Nigeria, Raypower FM. This was primarily due to his enormous contributions to the FM. He is also a Non-Executive Director of DAAR Communications Plc.

Kenny Ogungbe is a lover of good music and healthy food. He also likes entertaining people and bringing smiles to the faces of his fans.
