Speaking during a Sunday service on August 3, Adeboye commended the president for appreciating the players but argued that the coaches and technical officials deserved equal, if not higher, recognition for their role in guiding the team to victory.
President Tinubu rewarded each Super Falcons player with $100,000, a national honour, and a three-bedroom apartment, while each member of the technical team received $50,000 and a similar home in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate.
In his sermon, Pastor Adeboye revealed that football is not won by strength alone but by strategy and wisdom, which the coaching staff provided.
The RCCG general overseer stressed that without the tactical input and guidance of the coaches, the players might not have been able to clinch the title, Naira News reports.
“You need a coach to win; coaches have the knowledge and wisdom required to win. If you don’t know how to win, you will lose.”
He added, “To be a part of the winning team in life, you must know how to win. You need wisdom. Wisdom is better than strength.”
The RCCG leader suggested that the technical crew should not earn less than the players, because their planning, analysis, and instructions were instrumental in securing the 3-2 comeback victory against hosts Morocco in Rabat.
The Super Falcons’ win in Morocco was a historic moment, as they came from two goals down to defeat the hosts 3-2, reclaiming their status as the queens of African football. The victory earned them national honours, massive cash rewards, and new homes from the federal government.
The lavish rewards sparked discussions among Nigerians, with some praising the gesture as motivational, while others, including Pastor Adeboye, called for a more balanced recognition between the players and the technical team.
Adeboye’s message carries a broader life lesson as well: wisdom is better than strength. He urged Nigerians to appreciate the behind-the-scenes strategists in every field of life, likening the coaches’ role to the guidance needed to achieve success in any pursuit.
The Adamawa State Government rewarded the coach with ₦50 million and a three-bedroom bungalow during a colourful ceremony at the Government House in Yola on Friday, August 1.
