Born Adedayo Olumide Adeneye, on March 23, 1960 at Odogbolu, Ogun State, West- ern Nigeria. “D1” as he’s famously called and Kenny “Keke” Ogungbe have been partners in revolutionizing the Nigerian entertainment indutstry since their return from America in 1996.
Dayo Adeneye had his secondary education at the Federal School of Arts and Science in Victoria Island, Lagos. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Southern University, Illinois, and a Master’s degree in Mass Communication.
He earned good living working in America and taught English and Mathematics in a college. With the entertainment program co-presented with Kenny Ogungbe in DAAR Communication’s Africa Independent Television (AIT), the two became famous. From there, Dayo and his friend delved into the entertainment business, making significant marks in the Nigerian music industry.
A graduate of the prestigious Southern State University of New Orleans, USA, where he bagged a Bsc degree in Business Administratio and later Master’s degree in Mass Communication, majorly in Radio and Television Productions from Southern University, Baton, Rouge in the USA. D1 began his entertainment career in d late 90s with the record label, Kennis Music, which he formed alongside his close friend and partner, Kenny Ogungbe, shortly after their return from his studies abroad.
Returning to Nigeria in 1996, he served as non Exe. Director at Raypower Communication PLC. The media star alongside Kenny charted a new historic course in the Nigeria’s music evolution, including taking Nigerian music to the Grammys. The duo also hosted the music programme, AIT Jamz in the late 90s, later becoming Primetime Jamz on NTA. Dayo and Kenny have also built on their careers to become fathers and mentors to many music celebrities in Nigeria, including the likes of Remedies (Eedris, Brown and Tetuila), Sound Sultan, 2Face Idibia (producing his first two solo albums), Golde and Oritse Femi among many others.
D1, as a Prolific, Creative, Skillful, Exept- ionally talented radio and TV presenter and music producer, he and his partner, Kenny have also played a vital role in the growth and devopment of the industry through Kennis Music platform by being a pillar and inspiration to many of the up-coming Nigerian artistes in the areas of production and promotion of various music, with many looking up to them as not only fathers, but, role models in and entertainment indutstry. Moreova, the innovative ideas and touch they brought with Nigeria’s first 24-hour radio broadcast with RayPower FM, heralded a new all-round the clock culture, that later became the standard for local radio broadcast in Nigeria.
Dayo and Kenny have equally made several appeances at world events and concerts like the Grammy and KORA Awards.
DI, a former Ogun State Commissioner of Information and Strategy between 2015 – 2019, is also the co-CEO, Primetime Entertanment from 2001 which is prized as Nigeria’s best entertainment radio and TV program with African entertainment perspective.
