BEHOLD, THE FIRST MUSICIAN TO RELEASE ALBUM

Canon Josiah Ransome Kuti,  is an Egbaman who made history as the first Nigerian musician to release an album! While singing has been a part of human culture forever, Canon Kuti was the first Nigerian to release a music album.

He started composing songs in 1878 and his last work was released in 1921.

His album is now stored at the British Museum! He was a reverend who wrote gospel songs for the Anglican Church in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He is  grandfather of King of Africa legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti and he was also  Prof Wole Soyinka’s maternal grandfather… .
