“CAN” DISMISSES FUFEYIN’S CLAIM

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly criticised Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin, General Overseer of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, over a resurfaced sermon in which he claimed that giving a “first fruit” offering can erase sins, including those committed by fraudsters.

The controversial statement, originally made during a sermon in January 2022, recently gained renewed attention after a video clip circulated on social media. In the sermon, Prophet Fufeyin asserted that the first fruit offering brings “miraculous blessings and forgiveness.”

CAN, however, has dismissed the claim as misleading and theologically unsound.

In a statement issued by the association’s National Director of National Issues and Social Welfare, Abimbola Ayuba, CAN labelled the statement as “heresy” and warned Nigerians against following preachers who promote such teachings.

“God does not condone sin simply because someone gives an offering in church,” Ayuba stated.

The Christian body urged believers to remain discerning and grounded in biblical truth, rather than being swayed by doctrines from what it described as “dubious theological backgrounds.”
