DAVIDO’S NEW POLITICAL WORK

Popular Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has stirred political discussions with his latest song, “From Umbrella to Broom,” which appears to hint at an imminent defection of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speculations about Governor Adeleke’s political shift have been circulating since last month following a private visit he and Davido paid to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence.

In the newly released track, Davido appears to confirm the rumors, suggesting the move is in the best interest of Osun State. He raps:
“New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom. Adegbe adafa, alagbada alefa.
Eyan marun, mefa, kilode ta n suffer. New broom go sweep better. Them tori us propaganda from January to December we no gbadun NEPA. So all of our youths wan go America.”

The lyrics metaphorically point to a shift from the PDP (symbolized by the umbrella) to the APC (symbolized by the broom), reinforcing speculation that Adeleke is considering a realignment ahead of the 2026 Osun gubernatorial election.

Neither the governor nor the APC has officially commented on the matter.
