DAY VETERANS RE-UNITE IN IBADAN

Veteran Journalist, Olamiti Lawrence Mofoluwaso has described his experience at an event he called “A Reunion of Veteran Journalists” in Ibadan.

The event which was held on Saturday 29 April 2024, witnessed the official commissioning of a multimillion naira League of Veteran Journalists House in Ibadan Oyo State.

He wrote:

It was a day I would not forget Saturday 29 April 2024 at the official commissioning of a multimillion naira League of Veteran Journalists House in Ibadan Oyo State.

Chief Segun Osoba the Generalissimo of Nigerian journalists dignified the occasion with his presence.  It was a day that some of us that started journalism in the early ’70s re united.

Although I could see how old age has dealt with some of my colleagues but .to God be the glory they are still standing and looking well..  Very few of them are in their early 80s while a good number are in their 70s.

To have a place to relax and ward off boredom in old age is indeed an excellent novel idea. Kudos to the indefatigable Chairman and one time  cerebral editor in the then famous Daily Times and Nigerian Tribune  Mr Banji Ogundele and other elders of Felix Adenaike,  Tunde Akingbade , Sola Oyegbemi, Bamji Ojo,  Agboola Sanni, Modupe Osewole, Sade Hastrup, Kola Animasaun, Wale Ojo,  Akin Onipede, Wole Akinloye, Victor Oluwadamilare,  Bankole Olaotan, Phil Aragbada and others.

The dictum that says old soldiers never die appropriately apply to journalists as well. Chief Osoba in his speech attested to this in his speech when he said the word Veteran was not for journalists. “At over 80 am still a reporter.  Journalists are reporters for life.” It was a historical day that comes only once in a lifetime. A day of laughter, witty and lively banters!!
