D’TIGRESS ZOOMS INTO SEMI-FINALS

Nigeria’s D’Tigress have qualified for the semi-final of the AfroBasket women championship after a remarkable comeback win against Mozambique in the quarter-finals.

The Nigerian team defeated their Mozambican counterparts 59-52 on Wednesday night to go through.

Nigeria are the defending champions of the women AfroBasket championship

The first two quarters were particularly cagey for the defending champions. Mozambique led 18-16 after the first quarter and were also ahead 33-29 by the end of the second quarter.

At a time during the tight encounter, D’Tigress trailed Mozambique by 10 points.

However, inspired by the indefatigable Amy Okonkwo, D’Tigress fought back to level 40-40 at a point before securing victory.

Meanwhile, Okonkwo led the Nigeria contingent with 17 points, six rebounds and one assist.

Nigeria had earlier beaten the Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt to seal the quarter-final berth.
