FCTA SEALS OFF PDP SECRETARIAT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sealed the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja due to alleged non-payment of ground rent.

The secretariat, located in Wuse Zone 5, was shut down on Monday—just a day before the party’s crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

The NEC, which serves as the PDP’s highest decision-making body, was expected to address long-standing internal disputes and other strategic issues. Members include serving and former presidents, vice presidents, governors, national assembly leaders, and party elders.

With the secretariat now sealed, the status of the NEC meeting remains uncertain.

This action is part of a broader FCTA enforcement drive, which recently saw the revocation of 4,794 land titles in Abuja areas including Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, and Garki due to unpaid rents. The administration disclosed that 8,375 property owners collectively owe nearly N7 billion, with some debts dating back over four decades.

In March, the FCTA had already revoked the land title for the PDP’s national secretariat for failing to pay ground rent for more than 19 years. Affected property owners were told they could appeal for reinstatement.

Other major establishments like Access Bank and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) were also impacted by the latest enforcement round.
