HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION PLANS FOR A RADIO STATION

The Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), led by its Chairperson Dr. Salamatu H. Suleiman was on Tuesday 27th February 2024 at the National Broadcasting Commission’s headquarters to express NHRC’s intention in obtaining a radio and television license to support in fulfilling the commission’s  mandate.

The visit was also to strengthen partnership and collaboration with the NBC.

Dr. Salamatu in her address, stated that the National Human Rights Commission Act of 1995 promotes cooperation with national and international institutions in order to fulfil its mandate of promoting, protecting, and upholding the rights of citizens.

The Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, Mr Charles Ebuebu, acknowledged the visit as timely, stating that it will foster greater productivity within both agencies.

Mr Ebuebu, further assured Dr. Salamatu and her team that the Commission will look into its request for a broadcast licence.

The DG also informed the visitors of the ongoing review of the Nigeria Broadcast Code and called for input from the NHRC.
