IKEDIEZE RAISES SCAM ALERT

Nollywood actor, Chinedu Ikedieze has raised the alarm on a growing scam tactic targeting the public and warned people to be careful.

In an Instagram post, the 46-year-old actor shared a screenshot of a conversation between an impostor, posing as him, and an unsuspecting victim.

The scammer attempted to extort N200,000 from the victim, falsely claiming they could not make transfers themselves.

Ikedieze, however, used the opportunity to caution the public about the new strategies employed by these fraudsters.

“Please guys, everyone should be careful. These scammers are on a rampage. They’ve devised another level of OBT. They now use pictures of public figures as their DP and start calling or texting people within your circle.

“This post is a clear example of how they operate. Confirm every call or message before attaining to humanity,” Ikedieze wrote.

The actor’s warning comes in the wake of increasing cases of online impersonation, where scammers exploit the identities of public figures to defraud unsuspecting victims.

Last year, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission secured the conviction of Aiosa Kelvin Orhue, who posed as Nollywood actor Fredrick Leonard.

Orhue was sentenced to one year in prison after defrauding a victim of N104. and $26,020 under the guise of a romantic relationship.
