KSA, OTHERS VISIT ONYEKA’S FAMILY

Renowned Juju musician King Sunny Ade and reggae icon, Orits Wiliki, led a heartfelt condolence visit on behalf of the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) to the family of the late and esteemed Onyeka Onwenu on Tuesday 6th August 2024.

According to report, the esteemed representatives visited the family home located in the affluent Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

The gathering included notable personalities such as the esteemed flutist Tee Mac, the influential music executive Kenny Ogungbe, and Mayowa Ayilaran, the committed general manager of MCSN.

In his address to the grieving family, Ayilaran expressed profound admiration for Onyeka, recognizing her exceptional talents as both a producer and performer. He described her as a true representation of creativity, a shining light of artistic excellence whose legacy is destined to last through the ages.

King Sunny Ade, commonly referred to as KSA, extended sincere prayers for Onyeka’s sons, calling upon divine blessings to be bestowed upon them. In a touching moment of reflection, he commented.

“You know, musicians who have done well like that don’t die because their names will still be ringing in the whole world.”

Tee Mac, deeply touched by the event, pledged to commemorate Onyeka’s legacy by participating in her memorial service. He further expressed his willingness to support the family in any way possible, demonstrating the profound connections of friendship and esteem that exist within the music community.

Kenny Ogungbe recounted a poignant story that underscored the parallel journeys of himself and the late Onyeka. Both individuals made the significant shift from broadcasting to music, establishing remarkable careers that would serve as an inspiration for future generations. He praised Onyeka as a woman of elegance and grace, offering prayers for her everlasting peace in the afterlife.

The grief stemming from Onyeka’s abrupt passing was deeply felt. She unexpectedly departed last Tuesday, shortly after delivering a captivating performance at the 80th birthday celebration of Stella Okoli, the distinguished founder and CEO of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.

As a valued member of MCSN, her absence has created a significant void that reverberates among her fans and colleagues.
