The 2027 presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, is gaining momentum as campaign posters advocating his candidacy surfaced across major parts of Kano State on Thursday.
The posters, prominently tagged “To Move Nigeria Forward 2027,” feature the image of Governor Makinde with the message: “His Excellency, Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for President, Federal Republic of Nigeria”. They were credited to the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027), a support coalition actively campaigning for Makinde’s emergence as Nigeria’s next president.
Key locations such as the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) roundabout, Wappa area (formerly home to Triumph newspaper), the Dengi Flyover, and Kantin-Kwari Market, the largest textile hub in West Africa, were all plastered with the posters, drawing significant public attention.
In a press engagement held earlier in the week, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, National Secretary of NYAG Makinde 2027, emphasized the group’s unified resolve to support Makinde’s 2027 presidential bid.
“We have met as different groups and agreed on a common front. There is no stopping us until we achieve our objective—a Seyi Makinde presidency,” Abdullahi declared.
He noted that the group had initiated widespread consultations with political stakeholders and influencers nationwide, receiving encouraging feedback. According to him, plans are already in place to expand the campaign’s reach beyond Kano into other northern states, including Katsina, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe.
The appearance of Makinde’s posters has sparked conversation among Kano residents.
“There is nothing wrong with it. He has every right to run,” said Alhaji Ibrahim Usman, a local observer. Another resident, Alhaji Abba Muhammadu, expressed optimism: “Let Makinde declare. I’ve heard good things about his performance in Oyo.”
Similarly, Mr. John Ezekiel, who spotted the posters near MAKIA, said, “We’re watching. Once the contenders declare, Nigerians will decide who truly deserves to lead.”
Abdullahi revealed that NYAG Makinde 2027 had already produced campaign materials such as billboards and handbills, which would soon be distributed across Northern Nigeria. He described Makinde as a “focused administrator” whose record in Oyo State positions him as a promising national leader.
“Our movement is a wildfire waiting to spread,” he concluded.
