In a bid to promote sustainable democracy in Nigeria, through coverage and reportage of political broadcasts, the National Broadcasting Commission on Tuesday, organized a one-day political sensitization workshop in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The sensitization workshop, with the theme: Towards free, fair and credible elections: The role of the Broadcast Media, is aimed at keeping all broadcast stations and stakeholders abreast of the Guidelines on Political Broadcasting, especially as Kogi State prepares for its forthcoming Gubernatorial election in November 2023.
In her welcome address, the Director General National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), speaking through the Director, Broadcast Monitoring, Mrs Francisca Aiyetan the Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, Mall. Balarabe Shehu Ilelah welcomed participants to the election sensitisation forum.
She saluted the Broadcasters for the role they play in broadcasting and reminded them to be professionals while discharging their duties.
Mrs.Aiyetan added that broadcasters must ensure they avoid content with subversive comments during the forthcoming elections.
The Director General’s representative in conclusion, further noted that broadcast stations have the duty to promote sustainable democracy in Nigeria and must adhere strictly to the laid rules of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and other extant laws relating to broadcasting while performing such roles.
