The veteran argued that no individual can be coerced into engaging in sexual activities in exchange for roles.
“Nobody will force you to compromise your values in exchange for roles in Nollywood if you don’t already want to.” He stressed that individuals have the power to say no to propositions that make them uncomfortable.
Kosoko stressed the importance of personal boundaries, adding that individuals have the right to decline unwanted advances.
The ace actor also claimed some actresses enter the industry with the misguided belief that they can advance their careers by engaging in sexual favours.
“If I said I need you to come and warm my bed so that I can give you this role, and you said, no, you don’t want to, they cannot force you to do it. If someone introduces something to you and you are not interested, say no,” he said.
“All these sex-for-role things, forget about it. I know some ladies that equally come into the industry with the determination that, by the time ‘I sleep with this and sleep with that, I will get my name’.”
Kosoko’s comments come amidst ongoing discussions about the prevalence of sex-for-roles practices in Nollywood. While some have spoken out about the challenges they face, others have argued that the issue is overstated.
The veteran actor’s perspective highlights the need for a culture shift within the industry, one that prioritizes respect, consent, and professional boundaries. By encouraging individuals to stand firm in their values, Kosoko hopes to inspire positive change within Nollywood.
