OBJ: LAWMAKERS RECEIVE #200,000,000

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reaffirmed his claim that some Nigerian lawmakers received ₦200 million, despite denials from certain members of the National Assembly.

Obasanjo’s assertion is based on firsthand accounts from lawmakers themselves, who personally admitted to receiving the funds.

“I heard it from their mouths; they told me they got it. If you didn’t get it, then maybe your case is different,” Obasanjo stated, suggesting that not all beneficiaries might publicly acknowledge the payments.

Obasanjo’s comments have reignited discussions on the transparency of constituency project funds, a long-standing issue in Nigerian politics. The disbursement and utilization of public funds allocated for developmental projects at the constituency level have been a source of controversy, with allegations of mismanagement and corruption.

While some lawmakers have denied the claims, others have remained silent, fueling speculation. Obasanjo, known for his outspoken stance on governance and accountability, challenged those disputing his statement to provide evidence to the contrary.

This development adds to ongoing debates about financial transparency within Nigeria’s legislative system. As accusations and counterclaims persist, the issue raises broader concerns about accountability in government spending.

Obasanjo’s insistence on the matter highlights the need for greater scrutiny of fund allocations and their impact on national development.
