ODEGBAMI CELEBRATES OSIHMEN

Super Eagles legend, Segun Odegbami, has expressed his admiration for Victor Osimhen after the forward matched his illustrious goals tally for the Nigerian national team.

Victor Osimhen’s significant achievement came during Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in a tense encounter held on Thursday night.

Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray, made a crucial impact in the match by scoring the equalizer with a powerful header just eight minutes before the final whistle. With this goal, the 25-year-old now shares the prestigious record of Nigeria’s joint second-top scorers, each having netted 23 goals for the national side.

Odegbami, reflecting on this momentous occasion during an interview on Eagle7fm, remarked, “It’s a good thing that he has equalled my record. This shows we now have players who can deliver the goals for the national team.”

Looking ahead, Osimhen will have a golden opportunity to surpass Odegbami’s record when the Super Eagles take on Rwanda in a crucial match scheduled at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 15. This upcoming clash offers the perfect stage for Osimhen to carve out his legacy further and establish himself as one of Nigeria’s all-time greats.

While both Odegbami and Osimhen currently share the second spot in the rankings for Nigeria’s top goalscorers, the legendary Rashidi Yekini stands tall at the forefront with a remarkable 37 goals, a record that has yet to be broken.

In a recent statement regarding Yekini’s ambitions to break this all-time goalscoring record, Osimhen named Yekini as the greatest Nigerian striker ever, a testament to the late forward’s impact on Nigerian football.

He said, “If I equal it, I equal it. But that doesn’t take away the fact that Rashidi Yekini is the greatest striker for the Super Eagles.”

With the upcoming fixtures, all eyes will be on Osimhen as he strives not just to rewrite Nigerian football history but also to inspire the next generation of footballers.
