ODULE BACKS RELATIONSHIP FOR ROLES

Renowned Nollywood actor, Dele Odule, has ignited widespread debate following his comments on the controversial “sex-for-roles” issue in Nollywood.

Speaking during an interview on Oyinmomo TV’s YouTube channel, the actor shared his personal views on romantic dynamics within the industry, emphasizing the importance of consent.

Odule stated that he does not believe it’s inherently wrong for an actor to request a romantic relationship from an actress in exchange for a movie role, as long as there is no coercion involved.

“I don’t agree that actors force actresses into such situations,” he said. “If it happens, it means the actress already has an interest in doing it.”

Highlighting the realities of human interaction, Odule explained that romantic or sexual advances are natural in any environment where men and women coexist. What matters, he stressed, is mutual consent.

“In any society, men and women will naturally approach each other for relationships. What is key is mutual agreement—every woman has the right to say yes or no,” he noted.

The actor, who has played a significant role in the growth of the Yoruba film industry, was clear in stating that the issue only becomes problematic when force or coercion is involved, which is a criminal offense under the law.

“There’s nothing wrong if an actor desires a relationship with an actress for a role—provided there’s no force involved. Coercion makes it illegal,” Odule concluded.

His remarks have triggered mixed reactions online. While some social media users accused him of downplaying exploitation, others believe he was merely acknowledging adult consent and the complexities of workplace relationships.

As the Nigerian film industry continues to confront issues of ethics, power dynamics, and professional boundaries, Odule’s comments have reignited conversations about how to ensure respect and accountability in Nollywood.
